Description: The NC Wildlife Resources Commission developed the WRC Public Mountain Trout Waters (PMTW) digital data to enhance planning and management of trout streams. The GIS data set depicts the trout regulations in effect on trout streams managed under the PMTW program as listed in the 2011-2012 North Carolina Inland Fishing, Hunting & Trapping Regulations Digest (Effective August 1, 2011 to July 31, 2012). This file enables the user to identify the regulations in effect through a color coding system that reflects the foreground color of signs posted along the streams. Boundaries are approximate and should not be used for regulatory purposes. These maps are provided as a guide to trout waters and users should refer to the current Regulations Digest to confirm regulations in effect. Additionally, a significant amount of trout fishing opportunities in western North Carolina are located on private property. These landowners have generously allowed for public access for fishing. Please respect their property. Your cooperation is needed to protect fishing opportunities for future generations. When anglers encounter “posted against trespass” signs along these designated sections on private lands, they should respect the property owner’s rights and choose another location along that stream to fish.
