description:

Landslides: The North Carolina slope movement-slope movement deposit database (NCSM-SMD database) covers all of North Carolina. The NCSM-SMD databases includes slopemovement and deposit type, location, dimensions, dates, geologic (rock and soil), geomorphic and other site data for individual slope movements, and slope movement deposits.

Ambient Water Quality Monitoring Sites: The North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Division of Water Quality, in cooperation with the NC Center for Geographic Information and Analysis, developed the GIS data set, Ambient Water Quality Monitoring Sites data to enhance planning, siting, and impact analysis in areas directly affecting water quality. This file identifies locations in North Carolina where water quality data are collected on a routine basis and analyzed for presence of various chemicals.

Benthic Monitoring Sites: The North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Division of Water Quality, with funding from the NC Clean Water Management Trust Fund and in cooperation with the NC Center for Geographic Information and Analysis, developed the digital benthic monitoring data to enhance water quality assessment & plan review of Trust Fund project applications. This file identifies points where benthic macroinvertebrate monitoring has occurred. This file enables users to review the current rating of water quality for each sampling site based on the monitoring results.

USGS Stream Gages: The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in cooperation with the NC Center for Geographic Information and Analysis, developed the GIS data set, USGS Stream Gaging Stations for North Carolina River Basins. Data collection at these stations monitors streamflow and quality of water.

National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System Sites: The North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Division of Water Quality, Planning Branch in cooperation with the NC Center for Geographic Information and Analysis, developed the GIS data set, National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System Sites(NPDES), to enhance planning, siting, and impact analysis in areas which are directly affected by these sites. The file identifies outfall locations for individual NPDES permitted wastewater discharges to surface waters in North Carolina.

Estuarine Benthic Habitat Mapping Areas: The purpose of the survey is to locate and map shellfish-producing areas and to delineate potentially productive benthic shellfish habitats. Gross determinations of shellfish concentrations within productive bottom types are to be determined through a stratified random sampling program. The information generated from this survey is expected to update resource base data to a level from which information can be drawn for making management decisions.

Forest Health: The Forest Health Priority map shows areas of North Carolina currently at a moderate to high risk of damage from insects and diseases, both native and/or established and imminent invasive threats.

Rural Forest Landscape: The Rural Forest Priority Landscapes map shows areas of North Carolina where forestry is an especially significant part of the rural landscape.

Urban Forest Landscape: The Urban Forest Landscape Priority map complements the Maintaining Viable Urban Forests map (FIGURE 1b-5) by adding layers from these maps that have an urban component: Conserving Working Forestlands (FIGURE 1b-2), Protecting Forests and Communities from Wildfire Risk (FIGURE 1b-3), and Forest Health Priority (FIGURE 1b-4).

Urban Forest Priority: The Maintaining Viable Urban Forests map shows areas of North Carolina that are essential for restoring, conserving, and maintaining healthy urban trees and forests. Wildfire Risk: The Protecting Forests and Communities from Wildfire Risk map shows areas of North Carolina where wildfire mitigation and preparedness efforts can reduce loss of life and property, and prevent degradation of the forest resource due to intense fires typical of southern forests. Working Forest Lands: The Conserving Working Forest Lands map shows areas of North Carolina that should be targeted to prevent the loss of working forestlands from development and conversion to other nonforestry uses.
